I thought it was excellent. Someone did a lot of research. I liked how you showed an “easy’ trip and then ended up with a “complex” trip. Lacking? Maybe a bit more on the alliances. Perhaps this does not jive with your goals but that is what atracted me to TRW flights in the first place – these alliances such as Global Explore, Skyteam, Great Escapade, etc.. Overall its is a great start and a very valuable resource! Thanks for the effort!

I think I would like to see some sample RTW trips, using the different ticket options. Being in the very early stages of planning, I had a hard time visualizing what type of ticket I would need.

I dont have a RTW trip on the horizon, but the report was very interesting and Ive saved it for future reference. It was very well organized and clearly written. The only lingering question I remember having was whether STA would book a non-student. Figured I could look into it when the time comes.

The report has really noble aims, and does a great job of reviewing the DIY ticket options, but the biggest flaw is that the author hasn’t properly looked into the rules of the RTW tickets available from the alliances, and therefore does them a real disservice in his reviews.
I’m aware that the rules are very complex (and that is something to blame the airlines for), but understanding the rules is crucial to being able to get the best out of them, and it would be incredibly useful for travellers to understand those rules so that they can properly evaluate them, which the current report completely fails to do. DIY ticket purchasing is indeed often the best option – but for certain types of routes the alliance tickets can be much better value, and the current report fails in that respect.

Please provide tips on which cities to fly out and through in order to save the most money. For example, when flying to Europe or Aisa, is it less expensive to fly out of NYC or LAX instead of CLT? When flying in Europe, is it less expensive to use major cities such as London, Tokyo, etc. for cost-savings, and then travel overland to the city of interest?
